Becoming a Member

At Memorial Baptist Church, you’re family the moment you walk through our doors, whether or not you ever become a member. Membership isn’t a requirement here, and some of our most faithful, beloved regulars have never formally joined. If you’re not ready, or never plan to be, you are still fully welcome and fully loved. But for those who want to go deeper, membership is a meaningful next step, and here’s what it means.

WHAT'S EXPECTED OF MEMBERS?

Nothing complicated, just the ordinary rhythms of belonging:

  • Worship together regularly, in person as you're able
  • Give generously as God provides, supporting the ministry of the church
  • Serve using your gifts, wherever you're needed and called
  • Pray for and encourage your church family
  • Live out your faith, growing in Christ and helping others do the same

Membership isn't about perfection. It's about commitment and participation in the life we share.

IS MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED?

Membership is encouraged but never required. We welcome dozens of individuals and families every week who for various reasons have decided to fellowship with us in regular attendance without formally becoming a member. Member, visitor, or regular attender, you are always welcome to worship and fellowship with us at Memorial.

WHY SHOULD I BECOME A MEMBER?

Membership is simply a formal way of saying, "This is my church family, and I'm committing to it." It's the difference between visiting a house and living in it. As a member, you're not just attending: you're covenanting with a specific body of believers to walk through life together, celebrating baptisms, grieving losses, praying for one another by name, and building something that outlasts any one Sunday.

It also gives you a voice. As a congregational church, our members prayerfully guide major decisions together; because we believe every believer has a role to play in the life of the church, not just the pastor or the staff.

HOW TO JOIN

Joining is simple. You can become a member by:

  • Profession of Faith followed by Baptism
  • By publicly professing faith in Christ and requesting baptism by immersion.
  • Transfer by Church Letter
  • By requesting a letter of recommendation from another Baptist church of like faith and practice.
  • Statement of Faith:
  • If a letter of transfer isn't available, you can simply affirm that you meet our membership qualifications by statement of faith.

Just talk to one of our deacons or our pastor after a service, or reach out through the church office. We'd love to walk you through it, answer any questions, and welcome you in.

Have questions? We'd rather talk it through with you than leave you guessing. Reach out any time.
